Ada "Momerath" Was'ungi, the Last Otterian (1972-3247)

Born on Teegarden B (a.k.a. Wulf'acht'talegard'en'waff'zung) to Palarmi Was'ungi and Galf'tung Aberanschour, Ada Momerath, an Otterian, spent their youth participating in the Teegarden Star royal courts as was expected of the most distant member of the line of succession. With no real expectation of assuming the throne, Momerath dedicated themselves to the sport of Schlung'ulf'adreen (a.k.a. Scotterball) at the Teegarden Royal Games, an interstellar athletics competition featuring over 545 different events. From 1983-2157, they remained undefeated, breaking the record for most successful title defenses, which was previously held by Tok Ma'lung'schalf.

In 2162, Momerath's reign was cut short by the Pikonian Windfall, a sudden and unexpected attack on the Otterian Republic by the Pikonian Empire. The attack led to the orbital destabilization of Teegarden B and the eventual destruction of every member of the royal family except Momerath, who was then training in the atmospheric fog of Eridani R. Realizing that their life was in danger, Momerath fled the Teegarden system for Earth, then in the grips of a civil war which made detecting alien craft nearly impossible.

Upon arriving on Earth, Momerath spent a century disguised as a regular sea otter. They made a home off the coast of Santa Cruz, CA and befriended a family of actual sea otters and their descendants. Eventually, the sightings of an excessively large otter led Momerath to assume a human disguise to avoid capture. However, this was only partially successful. In 2359, they were accidentally identified by Gomert Smith, an apartment complex super and former body builder. Rather than reveal their identity, Gomert surprisingly invited Momerath to the Ogman's Association of Suggestibles, a now well-known front for a support network for intergalactic residents of Earth. For the next thirty years, Gomert and Momerath quietly worked to gather allies for the return of the Last Otterian, relying partly on interstellar connections and ancient myths to drum up support. This effort took several centuries and numerous identity changes; we now know that Momerath previously identified themselves as Albert Washington, a chemist; Tarbathix Wombat, a renowned soccer player; Sorgum Hamberswill, a network hacker responsible for Usenet Rebirth; and Splonge, a bestselling horror author.

Following the election of Wilbur Gonzalez to the presidency of United Earth, Momerath and Gomert used their collected connections to start the Otterian Resurgence, staging an elaborate interstellar media campaign against the Pikonian Empire. The resulting bad press caused an economic collapse in the region and a widespread protest movement in favor of the return of the Teegarden Star royal family with Momerath as the head. Fearing reprisal and further economic devastation, the Pikonian Empire dissolved and relinquished control over the Teegarden system, paving the way for Momerath's return to the throne – now housed on Teegarden C (a.k.a. Alf'spung'talegard'en'glascht).

Until their death, Momerath reigned as the Last Otterian. In their tenure as ruler, they stabilized the regional economy, rebuilt relations with the Pikonians, improved economic trade with Earth and its satellite worlds, and rebuilt the Teegarden Royal Games. In 3247, Momerath succumbed to old age, using their last moment as ruler to establish a democratic voting system for selecting future successors, who would assume the throne after each Teegarden Royal Games event. This act was hailed by Times Magazine as the fiftieth “greatest moment of the century.”
